This is sick if it's true

Update: After I wrote this post, the wire services changed the story to say police now think the incident was just a bar fight. Meanwhile, the beating victim stands by his account.

Ever wonder why so many anonymous sources with sensitive information won't just tell who they are? Here's the answer.

Does it matter to you that the attack on this whistleblower had nothing to do with the fact that he was a whistleblower (as the headline on the linked article clearly states)?

Does it matter to you that the article was updated June 9, two days after this post, which means the headline was different at the time?

If you care about the truth, you should know the investigation isn't over yet, and a government watchdog and another whistleblower have pointed to some unanswered questions that make it very difficult to say decisively right now that the whistleblower fabricated the story.
