Bring the pain, Hollywood

Since the networks boycotted the Razzies yet again this year, I'm stuck with watching the Oscars instead. I haven't seen any of the movies nominated for Best Picture, but I'll tune in tonight anyway, mainly to see if host Chris Rock can curse enough to send Michael Powell into a coma just before he can empty the chairman's desk at the Federal Communications Commission.

Consider this your Academy Awards open thread, should you desire such a thing.

I haven't watched the Oscars in a while, but what I did see of Chris Rock was pretty funny, particularly the "Who is Jude Law?" line.

But then Sean Penn had to come out and bitch about it. "Jude Law is one of our finest actors."

Is it just me, or is Sean Penn the world's biggest damn pretentious douchebag? Does anyone else just want the camera guy to fight back next time?

Isn't there some liberal cause for him to feign interest in to get attention?

No, it's not just you. Penn is utterly incapable of getting a joke, as he proved last year with his tone-deaf response to being mocked in Team America: World Police.

Also incapable of getting jokes: this critic from The Washington Post, who apparently thinks it just wasn't funny for Rock to make wisecracks about celebrities and moviegoers during the Oscars. Oh, and Jamie Foxx's emotional thank-you to his beloved grandmother upon winning an Academy Award, the pinnacle of any actor's career? The critic didn't like that either, which should tell you all you need to know about his ill-considered scribblings.
